Social benefits of urban gardens

It would be very interesting to get an idea of what the future holds for us. In a way, technology dictates our pace of life, bringing us closer to one another than ever before and reducing our perception of distance. But are we truly closer to each other? Or are we experiencing a false sense of socialization?
In recent years, urban gardens have become an extremely beneficial option in every sense, sparking a true revolution in major cities around the world. The reasons behind this revolution are varied, although the primary motivation is undoubtedly care and respect for the environment . Self-sufficiency is synonymous with care and awareness. Knowing the origin of our vegetables, how they grow, or seeking advice fosters a sense of security and commitment to the environment, in addition to improving the social relationships of those who participate.

These initiatives are making a positive contribution to society, specifically to the neighborhood communities that participate in and support them. Below, we've compiled a list of benefits that having an urban garden will bring, both for sharing within communities and for families:
- They promote a better social environment in the community, as they allow interaction between neighbors and help them get to know each other better. Therefore, we can say that they encourage a shared identity among the participants.
- They contribute to the preservation of traditional horticultural knowledge through intergenerational encounters, allowing the integration of older age groups who find in the gardens a daily activity and a constant task.
- It restores and facilitates contact between citizens and the garden, especially with younger generations, since they not only benefit from a cultural perspective, but also from an approach to ecology and respect for the environment, generating collective awareness and social cohesion.
- Physical and psychological benefits, through the physical activities involved in maintaining the garden.
- It facilitates access to fresh, quality food, promoting an improvement in quality of life and health.
- Help pollinators: bees or butterflies are some of the pollinators that benefit from our urban garden.
- Reusing organic waste to make homemade compost, thus reducing organic waste in our community.

As we've seen, urban gardens contribute to the recovery and development of both people and the environment, which is why their inclusion in our society is so important. They offer us great benefits that we often overlook. In Granada, we're already promoting this great idea, and many people are already enjoying a better quality of life thanks to urban gardens. So, get started and join the urban garden revolution!
